Two women with arms up in the air looking over a mountain

23. Take Credit! [Podcast]

You know that thing you’ve been working so hard for?

Maybe you’ve been eating dinner at the office for months to get through a project. Maybe you’re showing up at the gym even when you don’t want to because you made a promise to yourself. Maybe you’re running around trying to get your kids to school, soccer, and oboe practice five days a week because you’re doing everything in your power to raise good, kind, well-rounded humans.

Whatever it is that you’ve worked hard for, whatever it is that you’ve accomplished…

Today, I want you to TAKE CREDIT for it.

As women, we have a knack for sending credit in other directions.

“I couldn’t have done it without my team.”

“You should really be thanking my partner.”

“I just got lucky.”

Why is it so much easier for us to give our credit away?

In this episode, we are going to talk about why it is so important that we as women own our accomplishments. And if this is something that’s hard for you, I talk about the mental shift that is helping me learn how to do it, too.

Look. Of course we’re grateful for our help and support! Practicing gratitude for supportive partners, friends, colleagues, mentors, and family is important. But it’s also important to be grateful for our own gifts, our own skills, and the opportunities we have to serve the world.

Here’s what I know: living our biggest, boldest lives isn’t easy. Going after what we want isn’t easy. Sometimes, surviving our everyday lives isn’t easy, either. And when that’s the case, we deserve to say,

“Thank you. I worked really hard for this.”
